I have been told to first get my mortgage ready and second to look for the house, but I have good credit... should I be worried?

What do you mean you have good credit? do you know your credit score? We have found that many people thinks they have good credit to find out that their credit has a couple of hiccups, or they don't really understand their credit... You may be one that understands it and knows what you are talking about, still you should meet with a mortgage broker or a bank (a realtor can put you in touch with people he/she may trust and knows will find the best deal for you) and understand what you will qualify for. The reason behind meeting with a mortgage banker or broker is really to understand what your mortgage would be like, what you will qualify for, how much you can afford, and give you an idea of the payments and closing costs, so that if you need to negotiate anything in the purchase of the home, you can do it up-front and not after the fact. Remember that the mortgage company and the realtor will work together to make sure you get on your new home with minimum cost and minimum work to you.
